'Family Meal' 2011
Illustration from my final degree project about the hidden lives of geisha. This scene shows the geisha equivalant of a family meal. Within an Okiya (geisha house) the girls refer to each other as sister and the older woman who watches over them (generally a retired geisha who has inherited the okiya) is known as mother. Most okiya's have a cat or small dog to act as a companion. Here the cat has jumped over the table and sent everything flying.
